I understand this is imminent. I guess to be expected given they are sealing the roads more every year, and great for the locals, but must admit the tourist part of me is less enthusiastic.

Son-in-law has just done 2 back to backs to Weipa this week in a road train from Cairns so bridge is open, think the road is blocked just north of Coen to limit travel. Best check with Coen police station or the Exchange Hotel at Coen re road block

I remember the old crossing before the concrete causeway/bridge went in. Toot's (RIP)would be shacking her head & say what's the track coming too, I remember her saying what a waste of concrete when the Wenlock bridge went in back in about 1980/81?

Spoke to some surveyors near Archer River crossing in August 2016 and they were up there to survey for the new alignment and bridge. Been a while coming. LOL. Back then the word was tar to Weipa by 2020. Must be close now.
And how will the Tip and Tele Track cope with many extra visitors lured in by the tar? Between 08 and 16 it was noticeably busier and being trashed with both rubbish and track gouging. This year it will have a small chance to recover but we won't be there to see it. If the hordes keep up their environmentally unfriendly ways it's going to eventually mean more restrictions.....W
